A Proposal for EasyAsset

EasyAsset is a wonderful service for building NFTs on Bitcoin/Counterparty. However, I’m bothered by the URL format: https://easyasset.art/j/ungmnw/BOOUU.json It is not immutable. I suggest changing it to something like this: easyasset.art/j/24lf1HKGp_V3q5Jj5lMx.json This URL contains a hash. It makes the NFT permanent. Why it Matters EasyAsset repeats an old mistake made by Monegraph in 2014. Like many modern NFTs, MGAAAAAAAAAAA‘s metadata is a link to a json file. Open it and […]

How I Eternalized OLGA on Dogecoin

OLGA on Dogeparty has all associated info in a json file. The only onchain data is a URL: olganft.com/i/olgaGzrKnjmRW6jrCoNo.json A simple link, yet sufficient to make the token perfectly immutable. Even if the .com domain expires, the NFT can be recreated by anyone with a copy of the associated files. Background & Update In 2014 I minted 1001 OLGA tokens. The non-fungible one on Bitcoin, and a thousand more on […]

SALVATION (2015) – Practical Joke NFT

Sometime 2015 I minted a few SALVATION tokens, made an anonymous announcement, leaned back and enjoyed the reactions. The Conception On August 4, 2015 I issued 7 indivisible SALVATION tokens with description: “SAVE UR SOUL FROM SIN & ITS CONSEQUENCES” A couple days later I transferred the issuance-right to 1SaLvationGodsMarveLousGracaLgYQS. If, by a miracle, this address has a private key, salvation can be bestowed upon every soul on the planet. […]

A Collection of HNFT Timelines

Here are a few timelines that cover the emergence of scarce crypto collectibles, aka Historic NFTs. Naturally, the various timelines focus on different aspects. Some are tokens only, others also include domain names. Most have a bias towards art, while those timelines that I made lean more toward objective properties. My Timelines 1/1 NFTs on Counterparty 1/N NFTs on Counterparty 1/N by DEX Trade (Twitter thread) Counterparty Milestones (Timeline Tool) […]

List of First Limited Edition 1/N NFTs

This article is about the origin of limited edition tokens, aka 1/N NFTs. Unlike 1/1 NFTs, which are non-fungible, 1/N NFTs are actually fungible. Ironic terminology aside, fungible collectibles are in fact a major innovation in itself. It took more than a year from Counterparty’s inception until EverdreamSoft’s Spells of Genesis – as the first commercial project – offered limited edition crypto trading cards with the defining properties: Indivisible tokens, […]

How to Retrieve OLGA’s Image From the Blockchain

An eternal token of love, OLGA’s image is stored on the most permanent medium known to man – the Bitcoin blockchain. Here I will explain how the image is encoded, present a script which retrieves the image from the blockchain, and how to upscale the image. The Blockchain Image This exact image is saved on the blockchain: The file is a miniature png file. A very small size was required […]

OLGA on Dogecoin (2014)

Shortly after I minted the original OLGA on Bitcoin, I made a second version on Dogecoin. Here’s the story. June 2014 Just having learned how to issue crypto assets on Bitcoin via Counterparty, I feel like surprising my girlfriend Olga with a very special token. Wanting to add a poem to it – and limited by the fifty or so character limit – I come up with the one-lined monostich […]

A Timeline of 1/1 NFTs on Counterparty

Ever since 2014, NFTs have been minted on Bitcoin via Counterparty. This article focuses exclusively on NFTs true to the very definition of non-fungible — i.e. unique distinguishable tokens which by Counterparty jargon means a locked supply of one indivisible token. Only a handful of NFTs were minted each year until 2021, when usage finally went through the roof. Almost all of these NFTs have on-chain metadata which makes it […]
