Counterparty.com & Counterparty v11

I am proud to announce my new website – counterparty.com. It is still under construction but I aim to have an explorer, useful tools and resources up shortly. An important goal of the website is to provide feedback on new developments. As you might know, a new version of Counterparty is around the corner. It will activate on block 902,000 (around 20 June). What’s New in v11 ❤️ Bech32 (P2WSH […]

OLGA STAMP Minter for Electrum

Here I will show you how to mint a Bitcoin NFT from the Electrum wallet. Your artwork will be made up of small amounts of Bitcoins, not too different from crafting jewelry out of gold. With one essential distinction: Bitcoin art is permanent. So please think twice or thrice before minting – your artwork is forever. Your art will be represented either by one unique token (literal NFT) or a […]

Counterparty Image Archives

I have made some archives to help preserve Counterparty’s rich art history. Xchain Archive Size: 16.9 GB The archive contains 14,063 images, each associated with a token and a project. I created it on January 16, 2024. It should contain all assets with a project label (less 10 images that failed to download). Archive secured with on-chain hash; see xcp.dev and decoder. Image URL Archive Size: 12.9 GB The archive […]

Who Invented NFTs?

Don’t trust Wikipedia. The real evidence points to me, JP Janssen. These are the oldest known NFTs: OLGA, the literal definition of NFT; non-fungible token. JPGOLD, a limited-edition token; so-called 1/N NFT. JPJA, the second 1/N and the first NFT project. These were all created by me in June 2014. Also, in 2015 I was the first to add immutability to crypto trading cards. Context The first token standards emerged in […]

JP’s Asset Shop

In 2014 I did several token experiments in line with Counterparty’s vision of ‘pioneering peer-to-peer finance‘. In 2015 I let creativity loose and made a few trading cards. I also collected a substantial amount of unique asset names. Tokens Tokens are occasionally listed for sale. Offers are announced on Discord and/or Twitter. Name Assets Counterparty has a name system which can be collected like Namecoin or ENS domains – but […]

Compressed XCP Transactions

This is a draft proposal for compressed Counterparty messages. The benefits will be: slightly reduced fees for ordinary XCP transactions. significantly reduced fees when bundling several XCP messages in one BTC tx. First let’s look at a typical Counterparty message: 434e5452505254590a000000000000000100000000ee6b28000000000001d6b896000000000bebc2001f800000000000000000 Prefix The first eight bytes, 434e545250525459, is the prefix. It translates to CNTRPRTY. All Counterparty transactions use this prefix. My proposal suggests an alternative prefix, 584350, meaning XCP. This […]

A Proposal for EasyAsset

EasyAsset is a wonderful service for building NFTs on Bitcoin/Counterparty. However, I’m bothered by the URL format: https://easyasset.art/j/ungmnw/BOOUU.json It is not immutable. I suggest changing it to something like this: easyasset.art/j/24lf1HKGp_V3q5Jj5lMx.json This URL contains a hash. It makes the NFT permanent. Why it Matters EasyAsset repeats an old mistake made by Monegraph in 2014. Like many modern NFTs, MGAAAAAAAAAAA‘s metadata is a link to a json file. Open it and […]

How I Eternalized OLGA on Dogecoin

OLGA on Dogeparty has all associated info in a json file. The only onchain data is a URL: olganft.com/i/olgaGzrKnjmRW6jrCoNo.json A simple link, yet sufficient to make the token perfectly immutable. Even if the .com domain expires, the NFT can be recreated by anyone with a copy of the associated files. Background & Update In 2014 I minted 1001 OLGA tokens. The non-fungible one on Bitcoin, and a thousand more on […]

SALVATION (2015) – Practical Joke NFT

Sometime 2015 I minted a few SALVATION tokens, made an anonymous announcement, leaned back and enjoyed the reactions. The Conception On August 4, 2015 I issued 7 indivisible SALVATION tokens with description: “SAVE UR SOUL FROM SIN & ITS CONSEQUENCES” A couple days later I transferred the issuance-right to 1SaLvationGodsMarveLousGracaLgYQS. If, by a miracle, this address has a private key, salvation can be bestowed upon every soul on the planet. […]
